Competence growth in political education is better achieved through competence-oriented teaching than through traditional instruction. This is the conclusion of an intervention study involving 1,071 students in the 9th and 10th grades. The study demonstrates the empirical relationships between political information behavior, various self-concepts, and political knowledge. Furthermore, it highlights that the effectiveness of political education can be enhanced by various motivational influencing factors and shows an independence from participation experience and knowledge.
