In 2010, capital market-oriented companies that disclose their annual financial statements according to IAS/IFRS had to prepare their income statement for the first time in accordance with the amended IAS 1 (rev. 2007). Marco Schmid critically examines various types of performance determinants of the comprehensive income statement from conceptual and accounting theory perspectives. The author investigates the implications that the purpose and target figure have on the conceptual design of accounting information. Furthermore, against the backdrop of accounting theory, it is analyzed whether the amended IAS 1, along with the shift towards fair value accounting, actually achieves the intended goals. Finally, the requirements that accounting information, particularly the income statement and the components to be disclosed, must meet are formulated. It is demonstrated.
