Eicke Bastian Möller demonstrates how robust cyclical surgical schedules can be developed for the medium-term planning horizon of a hospital's surgical department, taking into account uncertainty aspects, particularly length of stay and duration of surgery. The generated schedules provide good or acceptable solutions for every conceivable future environmental situation. Additionally, an analytical approach to assess the robustness of surgical plans is presented. The model concept serves as a straightforwardly adaptable planning tool, whose surgical schedules can be used as a reliable planning basis for the other departments of a hospital.
