The implementation of Basel II for banks and their borrowers, along with the associated impacts—particularly regarding the regulatory capital of banks—is being intensively discussed in professional circles. This paper analyzes, using the credit portfolios of two regional banks as examples, whether and to what extent the objectives pursued by the reform can be achieved through the planned regulations.
