The author explores the previously under-researched area of military-supported crisis management in the context of regional security cooperation in West Africa, with a particular focus on the military capacities and capabilities of West African forces. In addition to analyzing Nigeria's role as a regional hegemon, Jan Grebe examines the support for African-led military interventions and the fight against increasing piracy in the Gulf of Guinea by external actors. He also describes their collaboration with West African states to enhance military capacities and capabilities.
