The volume provides insight into a disciplinary differentiated research practice of comedy in (post-)migrant and cross-cultural contexts. In the respective subjects of investigation, the authors inquire about the social meaning, functions, and roles, as well as the staging and performative means of laughter, humor, comedy, and satire. It becomes evident that comedy, alongside entertainment, fulfills a range of other social functions: it reproduces, reflects, communicates, or overcomes specific problems that are rooted in the socio-cultural context of the subjects studied. In comedy communication, identities are formed and negotiated: through aggressive, face-threatening, and competitive comedy communication, boundaries are marked and friendship relationships are tested. The contributions in this volume aim to enhance awareness.
