Anke Schmitz examines how students can be supported in understanding informational texts through practical measures of text design. She provides numerous suggestions for the design of textbook texts and the systematic handling of informational texts in the classroom. In addition to a linguistic and cognitive psychological foundation of the concept of text comprehensibility and the construct of text understanding, an empirical analysis is conducted to determine which students benefit from text optimizations through global text cohesion based on their cognitive and motivational prerequisites.
