Product details
Ekaterina Kaganova investigates what and how well textbook teaching texts in the subject of mathematics teach. First, the author conceptualizes the construct "teaching potential of a (mathematics) textbook teaching text" based on cognitive psychology's schema theory and incorporating text-linguistic approaches as an analytically accessible dimension. Subsequently, the teaching potential of selected teaching texts from current mathematics textbooks for grades 6 and 7 is analyzed. Particularly through the empirical evidence that the publicly stated claims regarding teaching in mathematics classes are not actually fulfilled, the analysis results gain societal relevance.
