Lisbeth Jerich highlights the potential of psychotherapeutic interventions beyond mere symptom relief. In doing so, the author returns to the original meaning of the term psychotherapy, which aims not only at curing and preventing illness but also at the positive promotion of health. She develops primordial interventions for holistic health promotion using the salutogenic paradigm and the concept of identity as a constitutive feature of mental health. However, a stronger political anchoring of psychotherapy in health policy can only be achieved within the framework of a comprehensively modified societal and social policy.
