The UEFA EURO 2008 was hosted in Austria and Switzerland. To assess the impact of the mega event on Austria, the authors collected empirical data through questionnaires in ten languages. Over 8,000 visitors were surveyed in front of the stadiums and fan zones in Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Salzburg, and Vienna. Based on this data, the authors calculate the direct fiscal impact of the event visitors for all of Austria as well as specifically for each individual federal state. Additionally, they examine potential long-term tourist effects, visitor satisfaction with the EURO, and Austria's image from the perspective of various nationalities.
