Never has a summer passed so quickly as the one before Garman starts school. Perhaps it's because Garman feels a bit anxious about it. Will there ever come a time when one is no longer afraid of anything? No, say Garman's great-aunts. Aunt Ruth, for example, is afraid of winter because older ladies get cold quickly, and the streets become so slippery then. Even Mom is scared: of the dentist, with whom she has an appointment next Tuesday. It is somewhat comforting to know that even adults can feel uneasy at times. Stian Hole received the most important picture book award in his home country of Norway for "Garman's Summer," as well as the Bologna Ragazzi Award in 2007.
