Study paper from 2006 in the field of German - Education, Didactics, Linguistics, grade: 1.0, University of Passau, course: Main seminar: The Youth Book in German Lessons, 22 sources in the bibliography, language: German.

Abstract: Reading is one of the most important cultural skills. However, Germany's reading culture is in need of care, as Friederike Harmgarth provocatively points out. Particularly, students in secondary schools leave the education system without being able to look back on any significant literary experience within German lessons. According to the results of several studies, students from this type of school are among the least frequent readers. In the study by Irmgard Harmgarth, 45% of students in grades 7 to 9 believe that they have little to very little interest in reading. With reading competence, motivation often plays a crucial role.
