The study provides an analysis of individual and collective engagement motivations of small and medium-sized enterprises based on a broad empirical primary material, which goes beyond the previously focused purpose rationality of entrepreneurial engagement. Integrated into the larger context of changing roles and responsibility discourses among the three sectors of economy, state, and civil society, it offers a perspective on entrepreneurial engagement as diversified reciprocity arrangements, both disembedded and embedded private sector actors.
