The Thuringian Forest is a medium mountain range approximately 100 km long and up to 35 km wide in the Free State of Thuringia. Due to its variety of rock types, it is one of the most significant regions for geological research in Germany. In this volume, stratigraphic overviews and map sketches illustrate the journey through Earth's history. Excursions, as well as information on geological collections, museums, show mines, and caves, also provide amateur geologists with new and interesting insights.
