Now fully available: A commented collection of texts on urban planning theory, in which the history of urban planning theory emerges as a coherent interdisciplinary discourse. The source texts from the late 19th century to World War II illuminate the diverse aspects of the complex phenomenon of the metropolis and document the emergence of the modern metropolis in Europe and overseas. In conjunction with the commentary, they make the breadth and capillarity of an urban discourse tangible, which transcends national borders and begins to take on global dimensions, while also breaking its own boundaries and arguing in regional and territorial categories. The gradual institutionalization of the urban planning discipline contributes not only to its formalization but also to the development of a professional toolkit.
