Berlin villa life

Product details
The affluent bourgeoisie of Berlin moved from the city to the green suburban communities in the second half of the 19th century. This led to the development of a landscape of country houses and villas in the western part of Berlin, which is likely unique in Europe due to its diversity, design richness, and urban planning qualities. Here, a model was developed that embodies life in a single-family home with a garden in the suburban area, which continues to shape our dreams of "beautiful living" to this day. Authors from the fields of architectural and planning history to social and cultural history identify the roots of this fascination not only in the architectural and spatial qualities of these "good addresses," but also in a broadly developed spectrum of social and cultural practices that characterize villa life, in the staging of a world of its own, which has effects both internally and externally.
