Product details

The program of the famous "Bauhaus Books" from the 1920s also included a publication by Oskar Schlemmer titled "Stage Elements." However, the publishing opportunities dwindled around 1929/30 due to the Great Depression. It was not until 1969 that the present volume could be compiled from Schlemmer's estate. The foundation consists of Schlemmer's lecture materials from his course "The Human Being" from 1928, which he was unable to develop into a book. As can be seen quite clearly, his conceptual thinking was congruent with that of the Bauhaus, akin only to that of Gropius and Moholy-Nagy. As significant as the issues raised by technology and their management were for the Bauhaus, the ultimate goal, to which everything was subordinated and remained, was the social essence of humanity and, despite all social engagement, the individual.
