Large housing estates in divided Berlin
German, Jascha Ph. Braun, 2018Product details
The large housing estates of Märkisches Viertel (1963-1976) and Marzahn (1977-1990) represented the peak of residential construction in divided Berlin. Both in the East and the West, they were utilized for political purposes during their construction period, but research and heritage conservation now regard these large-scale urban expansion areas as important testimonies of German-German history. Following this approach, the book analyzes and contextualizes the underlying planning principles. It becomes evident that, contrary to common assumptions, the similarities outweighed the differences.
