During the period of a child's birth, couples often experience tense irritations and undergo searching and transformation processes within their relationship. Julia Foltys examines the experiences of expectant parents in the tension between their idealized vision and the reality of childbirth, in connection with the mode of creating familial community. The author develops an innovative conversation analysis based on the reconstructive method of the documentary approach, which places the experiential space of the couple community or family at the center as a couple discussion. In this context, family is viewed both as a conjunctive experiential space within the metatheoretical framework of praxeological sociology of knowledge and as a performative community within the metatheoretical framework of historical anthropology.
