The tense social, political, and religious conditions of the 17th century are as clearly expressed in the poetry of the Baroque as are the personal struggles and joys of individuals. Over 90 authors represent Baroque poetry in its full variety of forms, ranging from student poetry to sound poems, odes, elegies, mysticism, and spiritual songs, as well as emblematics and gallant poems.
