The German school councilor and writer Ludwig Bauer (1832 - 1910), who studied at the universities of Würzburg and Munich, worked as a teacher in Würzburg, Miltenberg, and Kitzingen. He was a theater and music correspondent for the Augsburg Evening Newspaper and for many years the editor of Jugendlust. Bauer's poetry includes nature, love, and drinking songs, as well as numerous patriotic songs published in magazines. In his poems and stories for youth, he presents himself as a kind friend to children. The prose resembles the structure of the plot with a series of wonderful coincidences. This collection of his poems was first published in its second edition in 1864.
