Gefilte fish is actually a Jewish national dish: the bones are removed and then it is filled with all sorts of good things. Unfortunately, in this gefilte fish, the bones have remained. The problems of the Germans, the Jews, the German Jews, the school, and the apprenticeship are packed and tied together in the narrative of my youth, my family, and my friends. This is how the author himself described his book. Connoisseurs of East Prussia will delight in the detailed descriptions of Königsberg, its streets, the nearby Samland coast, and the Curonian Spit, which are presented with numerous historical views. But that is only one side of this book, the publication of which was described by Heinrich Böll as a small miracle.
