Faraj Bayrakdar weaves a narrative through 101 poems that connect like links in a chain to form a whole. These are untitled poems, divided by numbering; their content is shaped by the nights in Syrian prisons, which the poet describes as a night darker than any other night. As political prisoner No. 13, he takes the reader on a journey into his cell in Saydnaya, where he was held captive from 1997 to 2000. On this journey, he reveals the unimaginable in a bitter language of darkness and stone. He etched his thoughts into the walls of his cell when the moon shone through a hole in the wall. Faraj Bayrakdar has expanded Arabic literature with the theme of prison or prisoner poetry: "Easily recognizable traces in the poetry of Faraj Bayrakdar refer to the conditions and his own traumatic experiences during that time.".
