Product details

Civil wars, terrorism, and organized crime increasingly challenge the prevailing order paradigm of nation-states in many regions of the world. This leads to opposing processes of territorialization and deterritorialization, which manifest in geographies of violence. The contributions in this volume describe different manifestations and forms of organized violence and their embedding in social, political, and spatial reordering processes. Diverging conflict types and the associated structural dynamics of violence are illustrated with examples from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Brazil, the Congo, and Lebanon. Additionally, the role of global power hubs in virtual conflict spaces is analyzed. This volume is aimed at students, educators, and researchers in geography and political science.
