"Capodopere enesciene" (George Enescu: Masterworks) by Pascal Bentoiu was published in 1984 by Editura Muzicala, Bucharest, as a synthesis of the knowledge available at that time regarding George Enescu. Pascal Bentoiu, one of the most significant contemporary Romanian composers and musicologists, stated that he made a subjective selection for his analysis. Yet, all of Enescu's important works are chronologically documented here, and Bentoiu's subjective analysis is much more than just an analysis; he penetrates the music of Enescu down to its deepest components, describes it in detail, identifies its compositional principles, comments with unmatched clarity, and offers the reader not only a key to understanding but also an insight into the development of George Enescu's personality.
