Fried Nielsen invites the reader to accompany him on his numerous journeys of discovery through Georgia. We travel to the coast of the Black Sea and to remote mountain villages in the Caucasus mountain ranges. Along the way, he focuses on details, such as how the boys in a village in Svaneti lovingly soothe a calf before it is ultimately slaughtered for the feast. There are also accounts of encounters with Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze, as well as excursions to the various ethnic groups of Georgia and its cultural sites, particularly the many monasteries and churches. We learn that the seeds for German Christmas trees come from Georgia, as well as much about the historical events of the 1990s.
