It is quite extraordinary for an artist to entrust their work to others for completion, relying on the counterpart to be an ally who will bring the project to a successful conclusion. Gernot Riedmann (born 1943) has taken this risk many times. It has allowed him to have interesting and profound encounters and to immerse himself in foreign cultures. The unconditional trust in the power of subjective expression and the accompanying freedom that Riedmann grants the participating artists in revising his own works is unparalleled in our individualized society. From 65 unique 'family trees', a globally encompassing social sculpture emerges in the end, attributing the same space and thus the same significance to all participating artists.
