In the spiritual exercises of St. Gertrude of Helfta (1256-1301/1302), the focus is on the deepening of the individual's relationship with God. In seven exercises, fundamental Christian experiences such as baptism, repentance, longing for greater closeness to God, and preparation for death are presented. Through meditation and prayer, an inner path can be opened, allowing for a continuous conversation with God. The new translation of this classic meditation text by Sr. Johanna Schwalbe OSB (Abbey of Alexanderdorf) and Manfred Zieger aims to reach contemporary readers with language that is consciously accessible. Additionally, the many biblical and liturgical references in the text are explored.
