Alexander von Humboldt (1769 to 1859) was a German naturalist. His research expeditions took him to Latin America, North America, and Central Asia. He conducted scientific studies in various fields, including physics, chemistry, geology, mineralogy, volcanology, botany, zoology, climatology, oceanography, and astronomy. He also carried out studies and observations on issues related to economic geography, ethnology, and demography. The collected works of Alexander von Humboldt include many of his writings and are an unaltered, high-quality reprint of the original edition from 1889. The present fifth volume contains the first part of his "Journey to the Equinoctial Regions of the New Continent."
