Product details

The 1954 standalone edition of the lectures and essays published by Günter Neske in Pfullingen played a significant role in the substantial post-war impact of Heidegger's thought. Volume 7 of the complete edition contains the text of the standalone edition, which has now appeared in its ninth edition, supplemented with textual improvements taken for the first time from Heidegger's own copies and marginal notes reproduced in the footnotes, including references to Goethe's 'Sprüche in Prosa' (Maxims and Reflections). The first four texts, 'The Question Concerning Technology', 'Science and Reflection', 'Overcoming Metaphysics', and 'Who is Nietzsche's Zarathustra?' engage with the experience of abandonment and forgetfulness of being, following the path of resonance of the essence of being as refusal. In the subsequent four lectures, 'What Does Thinking Mean?', 'Building Dwelling Thinking', 'The Thing', and 'Poetically Man Dwells', thinking is realized as a leap into belonging to the truth of being in its essence as an event, as well as the founding of the truth of being, which inherently involves a letting-be of the founding ground and a building upon this ground. In the three concluding texts, 'Logos (Heraclitus, Fragment 50)', 'Moira (Parmenides, Fragment VIII, 34-41)', and 'Aletheia (Heraclitus, Fragment 16)', thinking unfolds as allowing oneself to be played by the first, early Greek beginning for the transition into the other beginning.
