Product details

The first landscape gardens emerged in Germany at a time when England had already entered their romantic-sentimental late phase, and they initially oriented themselves primarily towards this style. The first English park was created by Baron Otto von Münchhausen in Schwöbber near Hameln in 1750; this was followed by Jobst Anton von Hinüber's English garden in Marienwerder near Hanover, and in 1765, the even more impressive park at Harbke near Helmstedt, owned by Count Friedrich August von Veltheim. The latter still exists and contains the oldest North American trees in Germany, particularly oaks. In 1768, at the behest of the anglophile Prince Leopold III Friedrich Franz of Anhalt-Dessau, the park of Wörlitz was designed by Johann Gottlieb Schoch and Johann Christian Neumark in a Chinese-English style. It features, among other things, the first German iron bridge and the first.
