The Swiss journalist Hermann Stegemann, who worked as a correspondent for the Bern daily newspaper Der Bund during World War I, presents a comprehensive and detailed history of the war in his four-volume work, based on his column "Zur Kriegslage." The first volume includes the background as well as an overview of the military situation in Europe and the war events up to September 1914, such as the Battle of the Marne and the campaign in Galicia and Southern Poland. This is an unaltered reprint of the original edition from 1917.
