This study book presents the history of Israel from its beginnings to the Bar Kokhba revolt of 132-135 AD. The author conveys essential knowledge for exegesis and theological studies in an understandable manner, set against the backdrop of current research. He utilizes all available sources for his presentation; exemplary interpretations of these sources are provided, along with discussions on the limits of historical reconstruction. Additionally, he introduces the state of archaeological and historical research and critically relates the findings to the biblical narrative. This results in a portrayal of the history of ancient Israel within the context of the southern Levant, which at times feels familiar, but often comes across as fresh and unexpected. For the new edition, numerous sections have been revised and the latest literature has been added. The character of the book as a study resource has been further enhanced.
