It is every tourist's nightmare: During a road trip through Turkey, Gisela and Wilfried Hofmann are arbitrarily arrested by gendarmes in 2016. The two globetrotters from Thuringia are accused of espionage. At first, they believe it to be a mistake, but the first hours quickly turn into a nerve-wracking ordeal that will last a total of 24 days. Separated from each other, both are taken into custody. Wilfried has up to 79 cellmates from 24 different nations. They are not allowed to call their children, and can only contact the embassy once. Left to fend for themselves, they struggle through the interrogations, uncertain every day of when they will be released. These are days and nights filled with despair, hope, and disappointment. They soon realize that inhumanity, deceit, and corruption are part of the everyday reality of the Turkish justice and prison system.
