Not being sick and staying healthy is our conventional understanding of health. But are we really protecting ourselves by thinking about health too much in terms of illness?
TV doctor and medical correspondent Dr. Christoph Specht advocates viewing health as a dynamic potential that resides within each of us and can be actively utilized. He came to this realization while filming in Johannesburg. His experiences there profoundly changed his perspective on medicine and health. This was just the beginning of further journeys in the name of medicine: through South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Zambia, Malawi, as well as Australia and New Zealand. By describing different mentalities, the question arises whether our understanding of health is the only correct and still relevant one.
"Health does not exist at the doctor’s" guides us through the author's personal experiences alongside significant insights from modern science towards developing our own stance on health. Specht invites us to gain a new perspective on ourselves and our bodies by reflecting on our own lives and becoming attuned to what health can truly mean. He shows us how to cultivate a new awareness, a new and more positive mindset. He intertwines his personal experiences with findings from longevity research, demonstrating how we can develop a self-responsible and effective attitude towards our own health.
