Fixed role patterns, attributions, prejudices and evaluations are part of everyday life in social work. How can we deal with this constructively? The attitude of non-violent communication provides important impulses for this. Empathy, authenticity, acceptance and appreciation are central qualities of social work. How can these qualities and the corresponding inner attitude be lived and expressed in relationships with others with the help of Nonviolent Communication (GfK) and thus be used professionally in everyday practice? The authors use case studies to show how (conflictual) situations can be completely re-evaluated by means of GfK and how clarity, understanding and constructive approaches to solutions can emerge through a professional attitude. The self-care of the professionals is always considered as the central starting point.
