The Free German Youth (FDJ) was the only officially recognized youth organization in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and later in East Germany (DDR) from 1946 to 1990. As early as 1952, the leading role of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) was acknowledged. In 1957, the FDJ officially declared itself the socialist youth organization of the DDR, which was to serve as a reliable helper and reserve for the working-class party. The Ernst Thälmann Pioneer Organization (JP) was affiliated with it as a children's organization. During the 45 years of existence of these organizations, several hundred awards were created, and several thousand event badges were issued. The present catalog, featuring approximately 4,500 images, showcases this great diversity. The central awards of the FDJ and JP are presented comprehensively, along with district and local awards and badges with significant completeness.
