The denationalization of politics also has consequences for the structures of public debates. Global events stimulate, at least in certain instances, a cross-border, transnational political discourse. In her study, Esther Konieczny raises the question of the extent and forms of transnationalization. Additionally, she examines which structures of discursive power are reflected in the context of global communication events: Does the increasing shift of political power to a supranational level also lead to a shift of discursive power in public debates? The American and German discourse on the financial crisis and the UN climate conferences are comparatively analyzed to answer the research questions posed.
