So here I stand barefoot on the skirts of God in the atmosphere of his all-encompassing presence, in the scent of incense and the light of his radiance. This marks the beginning of the adventure of a deep encounter between the author and the triune God. The question of true shepherding has driven him into this encounter, after he had become somewhat disillusioned through his own experiences in pastoral ministry. As is often the case when people encounter God deeply, they are first transformed themselves, and so is the author. Then God can gradually reveal to him his perspective, his heart, regarding his relationship with us, our relationship with him, shepherding, church life, and other exciting topics.
