Winter 1582/1583. The discovery of corpses in the forests around Wolfenbüttel and in the Rammelsberg mine near Goslar puzzles the young jurist Konrad von Velten. While Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel wishes for peace in his duchy, as an important colloquium for the reconciliation of Lutheran theologians and princes is approaching and a trade agreement is to be concluded, mocking poems raise an incredible suspicion.
