Thomas Erle spent his childhood and youth in Northern Baden. After studying in Heidelberg, he set out in search of people and experiences around the world. This was followed by 30 years of work as a teacher, most recently as an inclusion educator. Alongside this, he developed a diverse artistic career as a musician and writer. He has been living and working in the region for over 20 years. In his free time, he enjoys exploring the Black Forest.

Since the late 1990s, he has written numerous short stories, with the first published in 2000. In 2008, he released his first short crime story. In 2010, he was among the winners of the Freiburg Crime Prize, and in 2011, he was nominated for the Agatha Christie Crime Prize. "Teufelskanzel," the first novel featuring the likable wine merchant Lothar Kaltenbach, was published in 2013 and became an immediate success.
