The gypsy girl Rosana and her clan are driven to the vicinity of Weissenberg in Upper Lusatia in 1813. After the mysterious death of her father, who was wrongfully imprisoned in a Weissenberg jail, the town banishes the clan from the area. Exactly three years later, the young charcoal burner Lorenz discovers a body burned beyond recognition in his charcoal pile. Nearby, Rosana and her family have been sighted. Fascinated by the gypsies, Dr. Cornelius Waldeck attempts to shed light on the crimes. Has the clan taken revenge for the death of Rosana's father?.
