Late antique Trier, 313 AD: In close proximity to the Porta Nigra, the body of a figure from the underworld is discovered. A young man, who earns his living by accompanying wealthy bathers, is arrested as a suspect. By chance, Gaius Aurelius Varro witnesses the arrest and takes on the case. Soon it becomes clear that the flutist, the nickname of the comfort boy, was mistreated during his arrest. This raises enough doubt about his guilt.
