Summer in Breisgau. In Kaltenbach's hometown, just outside Freiburg, plans for a major project at the foot of the Hochburg, the largest castle complex in Southern Baden, are dividing the population. The death of the Kirchmatt farmer, owner of one of the most important plots of land and a declared opponent of the project, causes further unrest. Kaltenbach doubts the accident theory. Shortly thereafter, an ominous discovery leads him to a trail that traces back to the turmoil of the post-war period. Was the Kirchmatt farmer, who was considered an outsider throughout his life, a threat to peace in the village?.
