Seventy-one-year-old Martha wants to harvest the ripe sour cherries in her garden in the Cuxhaven district of Stickenbüttel early in the morning. She is caught by a thunderstorm and falls from the tree. With a broken arm and a concussion, Martha is admitted to the hospital. She can no longer remember the accident. However, she remembers all too well a fateful summer night 54 years ago. Back then, a thunderstorm also raged, and there was a death beneath the sour cherry tree. In the hospital, she meets 48-year-old Eva, who was her neighbor as a young girl. For both women, the hospital stay becomes a difficult confrontation with the past. In the process, they almost overlook the deadly dangers of the present.
