Director Marksteiner from the Floridsdorf Gymnasium is writing a biography about Adalbert Stifter. He gathers information during a lecture at the University of Vienna. When he wants to meet with a student to borrow her lecture notes, he finds her dead. His presence next to her body quickly makes him the prime suspect. Leopold, who is also the head waiter, a hobby detective, and Marksteiner's friend, tries to prove his innocence. However, the closer he gets to the solution, the clearer it becomes to him that the case is more complicated than he initially thought.
