Michel de Certeau SJ (1925-1986) is transitioning from a cultural studies insider tip to essential reading in theology. His 'heterological' thinking, situated at the intersection of the history of mysticism, psychoanalysis, ethnography, and semiotics, was already postmodern when most in theology and the church were still trying to be modern. This first theological anthology on Certeau in the German-speaking world opens up the discourse to a new generation of theologians and theology as a whole through contributions from established experts. It becomes clear: Certeau embodies a compelling reminder of the future of Christian discourse about God amidst the pluralistic currents of the present.
