Are criminals truly capable of rehabilitation? The answer to this question divides the editorial team of the newspaper when double murderer Mischa Ashley gets a job at the publishing house after serving his sentence. His therapists' social prognosis is excellent. Police reporter Maria Grappa becomes his mentor, which she is not pleased about at all. However, the charismatic man, who has written a highly praised book about his life while in prison, captivates the predominantly female cultural scene of the city. Grappa remains skeptical and seems to be justified in her doubts. A sponsor of the ex-convict is brutally murdered, and the evidence points to Ashley. For the investigators, the case seems solved, but some facts just don’t add up. With the help of criminologist Friedemann Kleist and his student Lara Sander, Grappa learns that prejudices are not always a good guide.
