Grappa lässt die Puppen tanzen
German, Gabriella Wollenhaupt, 2012Product details
Bierstadt cleans up: To stop the influx of mostly Bulgarian prostitutes, the entire street prostitution scene is being shut down. Reporter Maria Grappa is on-site early in the morning to cover the police action and promptly stumbles upon a corpse. The young woman has been brutally treated and dumped. It soon becomes clear what everyone suspected: the deceased is one of the many Romani women who fled the misery in their homeland to sell their bodies for money in the promised Germany. But why did she have to die, and why did she have to suffer so much beforehand? Grappa meets Ivana Rose, who used to work as a prostitute and is now employed as an interpreter. The journalist learns a lot about the self-image of Bulgarian Romani families and hears about the Bulga twins, twin girls who were considered stars of the scene and are now missing.
