No one spoke of integration when Italians came to Switzerland during the post-war economic boom. Switzerland expected them to assimilate. In doing so, they faced significant xenophobia. In response to the closed Swiss society, they founded their own clubs for sports and leisure, organized cultural events and festivals, and opened their own schools and daycare centers. They created their own world and from there changed themselves and Switzerland. "Grazie a voi" showcases their own images: photographs of families and individuals, as well as those taken by photographers at official events and celebrations of the Italian community. They tell stories of everyday life and family, education and politics, leisure, volunteer work in clubs, celebrations, and elegance.
